More about Alpine Air FiltersAlpine air filters have a history of claims and lawsuits that needs to be examined by knowledgeable consumers. Alpine Industries of Greeneville Tennessee manufactured and sold air purifiers through independent distributors. The most well known product was the Alpine air filter with an ozone generator. It worked by moving air through an electrically charged plate. Part of the process involved a fan that would then recirculate converted ozone throughout the room. Back in 2000, a US federal court ordered Alpine to stop making health claims for its products. Alpine filters were not to represent their air purification systems as effective at removing indoor pollutants such as chemicals, mold, mildew, bacteria and microorganisms (except for tobacco smoke and some odors). Further, Alpine was not allowed to claim that an ionizer air purifier could prevent or relieve medical conditions. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency concluded that ozone is not effectual at controlling indoor air pollution - unless the amount actually exceeds health standards. In other words, if ozone is effective at removing contaminants, it does so in concentrations that are hazardous to our health. Note: Do not confuse Alpine Industries with Alpine Home Air Products. The latter offers reputable air cleaners from Aprilaire, Honeywell and Indigo Trion. Shop online from Alpine for carbon filter replacements, HEPA filters, media/electronic air filters and disposable furnace filters for home use. |
